Software Updates Continue to Arrive at the Exact Moment a Normal Adult Finally Has Ten Minutes to Fold Laundry

The update window is never the center of the day. It is the hinge of the day, the small practical opening through which domestic order might have briefly entered.

Technology rarely interrupts at a grand dramatic moment. It prefers the modest one. You are between tasks, mentally prepared to do something decent for the household, and the device suddenly needs to improve itself for fourteen minutes.

This is part of the larger insult economy of digital life. The machine takes the small pocket of workable time and converts it into supervised waiting, then returns expecting gratitude because the icons are cleaner.

The real complaint is not about updates as such. It is about the calm assumption that your time is a vague public utility the software can draw from whenever maintenance feels spiritually appropriate.
